Obituary For Anthony Garritano

Anthony “Tony” Garritano of San Francisco died on October 18, 2026, at about 8 p.m., at
Aegis of San Francisco. He was 87. He passed hours after Victoria, his partner of 58 years.
Tony was born in Manhattan, New York, on October 7, 1939, to Maria Strano and Andrew
Garritano. He grew up in New York City. As a young man he traveled extensively through
South America before settling in San Francisco in the mid-sixties. He worked at Levi
Strauss and later at Wells Fargo Bank, where he met Victoria in 1968. They were soon
dating and stayed together for 58 years. They were soulmates, and in all that time there
was never a cross word between them.
After retirement, Tony and Victoria traveled by cruise and by train to Canada, Alaska, the
Caribbean, and all over the USA. Tony loved to read, loved to travel, and loved the horse
races. He was so good at picking winners that he once considered wagering a full-time
profession. He loved his coffee.
Tony was a classic gentleman: soft spoken, polite, a natty dresser, always freshly shaved
and cologned.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Rosario and Giovanni Garritano;
and his sisters Domenica Garritano, Andrea Garritano, Luchia Fichera, and Farina
Hefferon. He is survived by his stepson, Mark Lillie of San Francisco; grandsons Marc Lillie
of Colorado and Nicolas Lillie ofArizona; and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be no local services. Tony’s urn will be placed in Victoria’s casket, and they will
be buried together. Services will be held at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Berwick, North
Dakota (date and time to be announced). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the
Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
