Stephanie Mack Obituary

Stephanie was born on May 18,1989, in Miami, Florida on her Aunt Peggy’s 40th birthday. She departed this world at 1:54 AM November 28th, 2024 on Thanksgiving morning, as she rested peacefully by her parents and the caring staff at San Francisco General Hospital’s ICU.

As a fine arts graduate from the University of Florida in Gainesville, she was happiest creatin art, making installations collaboratively and solo, no matter what job she held. From Gainesville she moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she managed a sports bar, and for a brief stint worked as a dog trainer before moving on to Sister Bay, Wisconsin. There she worked in the hotel industry, continuing hotel work as she moved to Bloomington, Indiana. During the pandemic she settled in the Detroit area, where she found she had a heart for working with Special Education students and taught in a middle school until her illness regretfully ended that career.

Her contagious smile and love of people allowed her to have amazing friends all over the world, many of which stated that knowing her, had made an impact on their lives. She loved to laugh and talk and dance and eat mariquitas. She loved to travel and see the world, but she always carried the “305” in her heart wherever she went. Her love of the arts and learning in general were ingrained from her music teacher, art teacher, PE teacher, kindergarten teacher, math teacher, social worker and nurse aunts and uncles. It takes a village to raise a child.

Stephanie was preceded in death by her beloved grandmother, Regina Mack, and maternal grandfather, Burton Storey. She is survived by her parents, Stephen and Lana Mack, 101-year -old grandmother, Carol Storey, Aunt Peggy (Denny) Moutray, cousins Staci (Koleman) Uresti, Cade Hamilton, Myka Uresti, Brian Moutray and Uncle Jim Storey, and cousins Bethany and Megan Storey. Stephanie was also blessed to have been surrounded as an only child by family friend/ sisters Stacey and Ashley Oswald, and Sasha and Gaby Tandlich plus numerous family friend Aunts and Uncles.

A Celebration of Life will be planned towards the middle of January. Details will be forth coming. In lieu of flowers, suggested donations may be made to Camp Zion, campzion.co donate, where she spent many happy summers, the Humane Society www.humanesociety.org/ memorial as she loved her rescues or American Liver Foundation, http://liverfoundation.org
