Rev. Donald Shields

September 24, 1955 ~ February 18, 2021 (age 65) 65 Years Old

Obituary

Rev. Donald Shields was born to the late Ethel Juldain Shields and Percy Shields on September 24, 1955 in Memphis, TN. He was their only child.

The family relocated to San Francisco, California in 1960, which is where he attended public school.

He met Anita Marshall in August of 1978 and married her on November 23, 1978. He knew this was a marriage put together by God. To this union was born Donald Jr on October 24, 1981 and then twins, Danielle and Daniel on August 11, 1985.

Rev Shields accepted Christ at an early age. He joined St. Joseph Spiritual Church under the leadership of Bishop Joseph McCormick. He was called to preach and later ordained to the ministry on March 2, 1981.

Due to the passing of Bishop McCormick and the relocation of the presiding Pastor, Rev. Jerry Brown, Rev. Shields was ordained as Pastor of St. Joseph Spiritual Church on October 22, 1990. He pastored St. Joseph Spiritual Church for 30 years.

He trusted God completely and listened daily for God’s instructions. He was selfless, lived to please God, and allowed God to order his steps. He was a great leader and example as a representative of Christ. He loved and trusted God throughout his life. He served others humbly, generously, and graciously.

He was called home to be with the Lord on February 18, 2021. May the life I lived speak for me.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ethel Shields, and mother-in-law, Ella Long, uncles: Henry, Ed, Rufus, and Joe Branner, Aunts: Elizabeth, Dorothy, Nannie, and Mickey.

He leaves to cherish his memories and continue his legacy, his loving wife, Anita Shields, children Donald Shields Jr (Kirmekia), Danielle Shields, and Daniel Shields; five grandchildren Mykela (mother: Jovon Shields), Bryson Shields, Donald Shields III, Khy’Renee McKnight, and Terrence McKnight; Uncle: William Branner (Sheila); Aunt: Cora Branner; Stepmother: Jackie Long; Godchildren: Senecca Long and Aundre Washington; Sister-in-laws: Brenda Dyer, Wilma Long, Sarah, and Barbara; Brother-in-laws: Willie Long Jr (Traci), Stanley Marshall, Valmy Long, Robert, Vernon Long (Trina), Sandor Long, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
