Peacefully, of San Francisco. Dearly beloved husband of the late Kathleen (nee Kiernan), beloved father of Siobhan (Erik) Krogh-Jespersen and Patrick Harrington. Proud grandfather of Rory, Ronan & Robin. Son of the late Leo and Katherine. Dear brother of Leo, Robert and the late Caroline and James.
A native San Franciscan and proud Irish-American, alum of St. Brendan’s ’64 , St. Ignatius ’68, UC Berkeley ’76, eventually taking over the family business, Harrington’s Bar on Front Street, in the 80s. He met Kathleen when she came in looking for a job and “got more than she bargained for.” To Siobhan and Patrick, he was a sweet, gentle, loving, and dedicated dad.
Mike embodied the true spirit of a publican—hardworking, kind, and generous, a great listener with a patient nature and a wicked sense of humor. More than food and drink, he traded in stories, jokes, and clever lines. When he was about to share one himself he would have a glint in his eye and the beginning of a smile, and once he did, he could not wait to join in laughing with you.
Friends may call after 6 pm on Friday, April 17 at St. Philip the Apostle Church, Diamond and Elizabeth Sts., where the Vigil will be held at 7 pm and are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Saturday at 1pm.
