Mary O'Rourke Obituary

Mary Agnes O’Rourke (nee Roche) passed away peacefully at home on December 7th, 2021, surrounded by her family. Mary was 89 years young. She was predeceased by her husband Frank in 2016. Mary was the loving mother of 7 children: Frank (Sandra), Kathleen Neil (John), Maureen Gardner (Pat), John (Elaine), Michael (Laura - deceased) (Joann), Patti Allen (Mark), Tommy (Gita). She was a beloved grandmother to 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Mary was a native San Franciscan and a 70-year parishioner of St. Paul's Catholic Church. She attended St. Peter’s Grammar and High School, and also attended Lone Mountain College.

Mary raised seven active children and was always involved in their school and after-school activities. After raising her children, she went back to school to later become a medical coder at Kaiser Permanente for over 20 years.

Mary was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother (Grandma, Nana and GiGi) to her family and treasured each and every moment. She truly loved special times with family. Mary was a people-person, interacting with anyone at any time - from social gatherings to a stranger on the street. Mary could talk with anyone, and always shared her stories with a smile and a laugh or two.

Mary was a volunteer at Kaiser Permanente including with the Mended Hearts. She also was a charter member of the United lrish Cultural Center. Her many trips to lreland with Frank were especially memorable, visiting family and tracing her lrish roots. She enjoyed traveling to so many places within the U.S. and abroad with the love of her life, Frank.

Mary was an active member of several clubs and organizations, including St. Paul’s Women's Club, The Women of St. Paul’s, the Precita Avenue Club (played women’s basketball) and St. Peter’s Alumni where she was active with the scholarship fund. She was also a Eucharistic minister at her beloved St. Paul’s Church for many years.

Mary’s family wishes to thank the many caregivers who provided such wonderful love and attention to Mary during her last weeks at her home.

Life was one big adventure for Mary. We will miss her terribly, but we find peace knowing that she’s off to her next adventure with Frank.
