Marva Jeannie Ridge White

Marva Jean Ridge-White was born in San Francisco, California on May 7, 1946, to Doris Marie Stafford and Samuel Hadley.  Marva was born to a blossoming family being the 2nd oldest of Doris Marie’s 14 children.  Marva thrived in education completing her early academics in the San Francisco Public School System, graduating from Polytechnical High School in 1964.  Marva then began her extensive educational career beginning with Long Mountain College where she joined the Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) Sorority and earned her Bachelor's Degree.  Marva, then, attended Hastings Law School, while starting her family and exploring various career opportunities including working as a Law Library Clerk.  Marva’s thirst for education eventually led her to the University of California, Berkeley, where she received her Master’s Degree in Sociology.  Marva had an extensive career with the City and County of San Francisco, retiring after over 30 years of service.

Apart from education, Marva loved life and her family wholeheartedly.  She fell in love and married, George Ridge, in 1965, birthing two bouncing baby boys, Harold LaMonte Ridge in 1965 and Jeffery LaMarr Ridge in 1969.  Marva taught her boys to be proud, loving, and hard-working.  They both attended school and participated in various sports and community programs while being raised in San Francisco.  Marva’s boys soon became men- marrying and starting families of their own, providing Marva with the miracle of grandchildren and then, great grandchildren.  In Marva’s latter years, she married Eddie White sharing her heart, family, and companionship with him.

Marva loved God and was a longstanding member of Providence Baptist Church, San Francisco, for more than 40 years.   She shared her love of God with her sons, having them baptized at their church home.

Marva left this life on June 23, 2022, being preceded in death by parents, Doris Marie Stafford and Samuel Hadley; her husband, George Ridge; and her siblings, Madeline “Carol” Battles; James Lewis; and Eric Martin Lewis.  Marva leaves to mourn her passing sons Harold Ridge (Traci Ridge) and Jeffery Ridge (Tosha Ridge); her husband Eddie White; her grandchildren Madison Sullivan, Nicole Atterbery, Mircydes Ridge, Myles Ridge, Hakeem (Jeneisha) Ridge, Tashyna Ridge, and Jeffery Ridge Jr.; her great grandchildren Cloe Johnson, Jayla Johnson, Brelle Johnson, Leilani Garver, Maddix Garver, and Willie Ace Wilson-Smith.  Marva also leaves her siblings Esperanza (Maureen) Stafford, Lovie Lynn Chapman, Leroy Lewis, Cheri Y. Rockwell, Sarah “Holly” Christine Lewis, Sterling Drew Lewis, Hastings Rodiquez “Stacy” Lewis, Fredericka Bianca Heard, Frede Smith Jr., and Tiffany Lynch to mourn her passing.  Marva has a host of nieces and nephews as well as other family members to cherish her legacy and revel in the love she shared.
