In loving memory, we sadly announce the passing of our beloved mother, Louise Galvin, on April 12th, 2025 (the same date as her son, Michael, two years ago), in her lovely home on Day Street.
She was born and raised in San Francisco, attended Mission High School where she met her adoring husband, James Galvin (deceased). They had four children: Kathleen (Grant Becker), Jim (Colleen), Michael, deceased and greatly missed by all, (Laura), and Dennis (Barby). She was adored by her grandchildren Jason Mora, Olivia Hutson, David Galvin, Mike Galvin, Dan Galvin, Joe Galvin, and Bill Galvin, as well as her great grandchildren Shyleya Mora, Keona Mora, Gigi Goetz, Saharah Rose Galvin, Karina Galvin, Colton Galvin, Hadley Galvin, Ella Galvin, and Kacey Galvin.
She was the matriarch of Day Street and took pride in decorating her house, inside and out, for Halloween (her favorite day of the year). She also decorated her tiny side garden with whimsical forest creatures for children to enjoy while walking, skipping or being pushed in strollers to and from Day Street Park. She was an avid Giants and 49er fan, and proudly displayed it in the windows of her sideways home.
After raising us kids, she became a teacher’s assistant at St. Paul’s Grammar School for 15 years. She enjoyed having coffee at the Star Bakery every morning before school with her good buddies, Eve and Stella. She found great joy interacting with her grammar school students, especially the 8th graders.
We want to thank mom’s wonderful neighbors that were so kind and generous with their time, and being there for her when she’s needed them throughout the years: Mary and Trixie, Michael, Kasey, Allie, Aubrey, Mark, Kelli, Wyatt (she loved you so much and always looked forward to your daily visits after school), Dave and Brady, also Julia and James.
We also want to thank the wonderful caregivers from Senior Helpers of Greater Marin, especially Sonam, who made mom’s day by pin curling her hair, just the way she liked it, while watching golf or the Giants, and always laughing with her while watching her favorite game and judge shows!
Last, but not least, many many thanks to Dr. Scott who took incredible care of mom throughout the last couple of years, as well as Nurses Brian and Andrew, and all the great staff of By the Bay Health, for their guidance and support.
A mass will be held on Friday, May 9th at 10:00 am at St. Paul’s Church, located on the corner of Church and Valley Streets in San Francisco.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her name to the San Francisco SPCA, 254 Florida Street, San Francisco, CA 94103.
