Diane Handlos passed away peacefully at her home in Balboa Terrace on October 26, 2025. Born and raised in San Francisco, she was the beloved daughter of Anita and Raymond Boragno and cherished sister to Linda Boragno-Dopp and Carol Callaghan (Dennis).
Diane was the devoted wife of the late Michael Handlos and a proud mother and grandmother to Bryan, Lynne, Bridgette (Paul), Andrew, Brayden, Adam (Lyndsay), Michael, Penelope, and Thomas. She also leaves behind many adored cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends. Her love for her family and friends was boundless, and she found great joy in spoiling her grandchildren.
Diane attended St. Brendan, St. Rose, Lone Mountain, and later attended SF State to earn her teaching credential while raising her family. She dedicated over 20 years to teaching special education and was committed to giving back to her community, including volunteer work at Little Sisters of the Poor, Martin de Porres and several years at NDV and St. Ignatius, where her children attended school.
Diane loved the theatre, music, knitting, walks in Stern Grove, summers in Sonoma as a kid, and later in Tahoe with her family. Anything to escape the city fog! She always enjoyed games with her treasured friends—especially bridge, mahjong, and pedro. She loved to celebrate and laugh, and never turned down a good martini.
Friends and family may call at Duggan Welch (3434 17th Street) at 6:30PM with recitation of the rosary at 7PM on November 3rd. A celebration of life will be held at St. Peter and Paul Church at 10:30 AM on November 4th. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the CJD Foundation, Pomeroy Recreation & Rehabilitation Center or another charity of your choice.
