Carole Slocum Barnett Obituary

Carole Ann Slocum Barnett, age 78 of San Francisco, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, May 22, 2019.  She was born November 28, 1940, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and is predeceased by her parents, Ernest Slocum Sr. and Viola Slocum of San Francisco, CA.

Carole was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, Illinois and enjoyed supporting the family charities and prison ministries.

Carole attended Polytechnic High School and San Francisco State University where she earned an Associates of Arts degree.  She greatly enjoyed volunteering as a teacher’s aide at her children’s elementary school in Los Angeles, California.  While raising three children she started a 32-year career with the United States Postal Service and retired in 2015.

Carole was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, great-aunt, sister, and cousin and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  She was an excellent cook and brought pleasure to everyone when she prepared meals for her family and friends, especially family recipes over the holidays.  Throughout her life she enjoyed giving gifts to everyone in her family: from her own children to cousins.  She was a dedicated sports fan and enjoyed horse racing and the Golden State Warriors.

Carole is preceded by her brother Gregory Slocum Sr. and former husband Leonard Pentalion.  Carole is survived by her son William Barnett III, daughter Erica Barnett Oliver and husband Travis, and daughter Tiffany “Camille” Carole Pentalion and friend Susan Yeary.  She is survived by six grandchildren, Ariel Christian, Eric Dumas Oliver, William Barnett IV, Eugene Stone Oliver and Wife Zurisadai, and Olivia Imani Oliver. She is also survived by two brothers, Langston Slocum Sr. and Ernest Slocum Jr., former husband Rev. William Barnett Jr., and dearly loved nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

Special Tribute

We hope that when you remember Carole, you remember the good times you had, and the funny things she would say.

Remember her in spring and how she loved to plant flowers.

Remember her in summer as the sun kissed her brown skin.

Remember her in autumn and how she loved sharing home-cooked meals carried down from earlier generations with family and friends.

Remember her in winter in Illinois waving as snowflakes drifted in the breeze.

Although Carole loved many things, she loved us all more, and don’t lose heart because we’ll see her again when we reach heaven and join her with our LORD.
