Andre Wingate Obituary

Andre Lamont Trotter was born in San Francisco CA on December 28, 1967 to the union of LeeRoy Trotter, Jr. and Elaine Jacobs Trotter. Andre attended public schools beginning in San Francisco, CA at E. R. Taylor Elementary School and Burbank Middle School.  After the divorce of his parents, his mother met and married McQuiller (Mac) Wingate, Jr. in July 1980 and the family moved to Daly City, CA.  Mac was anxious to become his father and adopted Andre immediately.

Living in Daly City, Andre attended Alta Loma Middle School and El Camino High School; both schools were located in South San Francisco, CA.  Between ages 13-18, Andre was a junior counselor at Silver Tree Camp, in San Francisco, where he mentored many who have recently stated that he was a positive influence in their lives.  Also, during his middle school and high school years, Andre was a member of each school’s band.  He played clarinet, flute and alto saxophone.  He also became involved in student government and aided in organizing some of the many school activities. He was very spirited and would pitch in to help whenever needed and had a passion for organizing events and activities in a professional manner.

Andre became Senior Class President of the Class of 1986 at El Camino High School which was a melting pot of races, but very few African Americans.  Many of his senior class members have said he made their last year very memorable as he brought people together in love. Some said he was an ambassador of love and family. He was very friendly and was willing to help anyone who needed it.  Many of his classmates have said that Andre touched their lives in special ways and he will be truly missed. Since graduation, he and his committees have organized many class reunions.  His persona left his friends, acquaintances and classmates with many happy memories.

After graduation, Andre took various college courses, striving to earn a BA degree in Broadcasting.  However, he discontinued his studies with only a few credits remaining before completing that goal.

Andre’ worked in the insurance industry for approximately 10 years, but decided he wanted to work in security. He worked in security for approximately the last 25 years because he felt it was a means to help and protect others. On some assignments, he was a manager or supervisor and some have said that he had a talent for organizing and managing the staffs to avoid chaos and confusion.  He was sometimes similarly compared to a first responder in his field.

He loved sports, especially all of the San Francisco teams:  Giants, Forty Niners and Golden State Warriors.  Andre was a people person who loved to be around his family as well as the families of his close friends; he was Uncle Dre to all of their children. He had an infectious personality and was loved by so many.

Andre was called Home by the Lord on August 9 and he’ll be waiting at Heaven’s gate to see us again.  He leaves to cherish his loving memory: his Father, McQuiller Wingate, Jr. and Mother, Elaine Wingate of Vallejo, CA; Aunts and Uncles, Mary Wingate, Marion and Walter McCloney, Edward and Darlene Wingate, all of Beaumont, TX, Shirley Jacobs of San Jose, CA, Ercelle and Glyden Mayfield of San Francisco, CA and Nancy Jacobs of Newark, CA; three goddaughters, Alura Malasig of Sacramento, CA, Dalila Stanfield of Berkeley, CA and Giustizia (Gia) Coppola of Alameda, CA; very special friends, Albert Malasig of Lathrop, CA, Rita Deleuse of San Francisco, CA and Renee Coppola of Alameda, CA; a host of cousins, many loving friends and co-workers.
