Alice Ravano Obituary

Alice Ravano died peacefully at home on July 10th, 2024, at age 94, surrounded by loved ones. A native San Franciscan, born on August 19, 1929 to Caroline Brady and George Marshall. Alice was raised in the Haight Ashbury neighborhood, the cherished 5th child with siblings Peggy, George, Carol and Bill, all of whom preceded her in death. She and her siblings were exceptionally close and had many good parties throughout the decades.

She attended St. Agnes Grammar School, Academy of the Presentation class of 1947 (where she cut class during her senior year to see Frank Sinatra in concert), and UC Berkeley Class of 1951 (the Bears made it to the Rose Bowl 3 times during her 4 years at Cal).

After graduating from Cal, Alice taught school at Grattan Elementary in the Haight, and later in life she spent many years as a substitute teacher. She enjoyed running into former students out and about in San Francisco.

Alice met the love of her life, Louis Ravano, at the Monican Club, and they were married at St. Agnes Church on December 26, 1953. Louis preceded Alice in death, but not before they had 65 wonderful years together where they were known for being the last ones on the dance floor. They visited family in Europe, traveled across the United States, and took countless trips to Hopland, Tahoe to ski, and cruises with friends and family.

Mom was an active member of St. Philip the Apostle Church in Noe Valley where she served as PTA President, was on the Parish Council, and made many lifelong friends.

Alice is survived by her children Louie (Maryanne), Kathy (Mary), Carol (Randy) and Linda; grandsons Tony (Morgan), Danny (Cami), Davey, Nick (Karen), Alex, Sebastian, and Laurence; and great-grandsons Vincent, Thomas, Sam, Leo and Charlie. She was also the cherished aunt of many nieces and nephews in the Hoenisch, Brown, Marshall and Moore families.
The family would like to thank Mom’s dedicated caregivers, especially Sala who was with her for the last 5 months of her life.
Alice was a loving Wife, Mom, Mema, Auntie Alice, and friend to many. She touched countless lives during her 94 years, 11 months and 10 days she was on this earth, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
