Tyrone William Tyrone

On August 1, 1948 Earl C. Powell and Maybella M. Powell welcomed their third child, Tyrone William
Powell. Growing up in San Francisco, CA, Tyrone attended Emerson Elementary, Marina Junior High,
and George Washington High school graduating in 1966. Throughout his adult life Tyrone devoted his
time to playing sports and developing his passion for music. Tyrone touched many lives and formed many
close friendships who remained by his side throughout his life’s journey. In 1967, Tyrone married Patrica
Ann Johnson and together they were blessed with three children: Dion V. Powell, Nicole A. Powell and
Tyrone D. Powell. Tyrone and his family then moved to Pacifica, CA where he and his kids became very
active in Pop-Warner football and cheer. On December 20, 1986, Tyrone married Toni Lavern McLemore
and through that union, they were gifted with three children: Tarez Q. Powell, Tony L. Powell and Tina S.
Powell. Tyrone and his family moved to the Bay View district in San Francisco, CA and once again,
Tyrone’s passion for sports and music heavily influenced the lifestyle of he and his family.

Tyrone coached and influenced many young athletes coaching youth football in Pacifica, San Francisco,
San Bruno; Riordan high (1985 - 1990), and Deer Valley High (2006-2009) Many of these men still
respect and appreciate the life lessons and the time spent with, “Coach Powell.”

Tyrone spent a majority of his adulthood working in San Francisco. First as a sorter for the US Post
Office, then after being laid off, he followed in his father's footsteps and went to work for the City and
County of San Francisco. His first position was as a maintenance engineer for Muni, then as a parking
meter collector, and lastly as Muni transportation operator, driving the bus and light rail vehicles. In
August of 2005 he retired but still remained active with his music and coaching passions. In his music
years, he was the manager of group, called The Philosophics. He also sung with a group called the Better
Half and The Y-Notes, as well as with a host of many other singers... His natural, first tenor was so
touching he would just woo, you. He was also a dazzling dancer and Great Entertainer...

Later in 2005, Tyrone met Pearline Johnson and in her own words "He was such a good-looking man that
I knew I had to meet him" and together they began a 14 year partnership. In their time together they
enjoyed the things that couples do, spending time together, traveling, socializing and graciously hosting
family and friends gatherings. Their relationship added more people for Tyrone to love and care for,
Pearline's son Rory and his wife May, her daughter Yvonne and her husband Justin along with their
children, as well as, Sisters, Brothers, nephews, and nieces.

Tyrone is survived by his partner, Pearline Johnson. His former Wives, Toni Mclemore and Patricia
Johnson. His six children, Dion, Nicole, Tyrone, Tarez, Tony and Tina. His nine grandchildren: Sierra,
Dion Jr., Mia, Lauryn, Tyra Laila, Dominic, Amar’e and Akeil’e. His three brothers: Joe Earl, Eddie,
Rickey and two sisters: Vickey and Cherry. And a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded
in death by his parents: Earl and Maybella Powell.
