Rev. Robert Lucas Obituary

Robert Lee Lucas was born March 3, 1949, to Bennie and Mary Lucas in Lake Providence, LA. He was the last of fourteen (14) children from this union.

Rev. Lucas graduated from Mission High School in San Francisco. He received his Bachelor's degree from Golden Gate University of San Francisco. He received his Master's degree through the "Unction of the Holy Spirit." He worked to obtain his SWD (Servant Well Done0 degree from the Almighty God, which was received on May 8, 2018.

Rev. Lucas was an active and inspirational member of the Olivet Baptist Church of San Francisco for 25 years, he served as Chairman of the Deacon and Trustee Boards for 13 years; Sunday School Superintendent for 17 years; a dynamic Bible Study teacher, and Junior Mission Auxiliary leader for 10 years; Director of Christina Education for one year; and Associate Minister for five years.

Rev. Lucas had a love for learning and shared that love through his participation in various educational and non-profit organizations. He was President of the Lucas Educational Foundation; Board member of the Hunters Point Bays & Girls Club, and Secretary Treasurer of the Baptist Pastor's Council.

On December 17, 1987, Rev. Lucas received his call to the ministry, under the leadership of the late Fe. L. S. Rubin and preached his first sermon on January 6, 1988, at the Olivet Baptist Church. He was ordained by order of the church on February 17, 1991, by Rev. Rance Whiteside, President of the Baptist Minister's Conference.

On November 7, 1993, Rev. Lucas was called to Pastor the Broad Street Baptist Church in San Francisco. He was installed on January 19, 1994, where he served for 25 years. During that time, he also served as President and Treasurer of the Baptist Minister's Conference. He was also a participant in the Congress of Christian Education (St. John District).

He retired from Pacific Gas and Electric Company in 1993 after 26 years of service. He then began his own business, Lucas Consulting as a consultant for utility companies throughout the United States and Canada.

Rev. Lucas was an avid gardener and shopper. He believed in doing his best, looking his best, and helping others to be their best. His smile was infectious and would light up the room.

He is preceded in death by his parents Bennie and Mary Lucas; Brothers, Sylvester Lucas and Woodrow Lucas; Son Tavio Lucas; Nephews, Lonzo Lucas Jr., and Julius Lucas Jr.

He leaves to cherish his beloved memory and legacy his devoted wife (his blessing) Kimberly (30 years), two sons, Vanyel (Kamiko) and Anthony {Cindy}; grandchildren, Jeryn Lucas, Jaiya Lucas, Aria Lucas and Anthony "AJ" Barnes Jr.; Siblings Lula Mae Lawrence of Carson, CA, and Bennie Lucas Jr. of San Francisco, CA, Merilyn Lucas of Carson, CA, Lonzo Lucas (Margaret) of Beaumont, CA, Rufus Lucas (Thelma) of San Francisco, CA, Joe N. Lucas of San Ramon, CA, Vernell Lucas Sr. (Elsie) of Cerritos, CA, Sisters-In-Law Corine Lucas of Cerritos, CA, Belinda Jeffery of Houston, Tx; Mother-In-Law Jennie Johnson; The Lucas Matriarch Victoria Drayton and the Lucas Patriarch Joe Lucas; God-Children Jennifer Lucas, Malia Banks, Chavon Hines, Chanee Hines, Terrence Thomas Jr., Avery Stewart; a host of nieces and nephews, other living relatives, friends and the Broad Street Baptist Church Family.
