Janie Dotson Bunton Obituary

Janie Lee Dotson Bunton was born on Sunday February 14, 1937 to the union of Ethel Washington and Louis Willie (Popeye) Dotson, Sr. in Austin Texas. Janie was the 3rd of their four children. Janie was not only an academically accomplished student, but she excelled in many additional extracurricular activities and sports at L.C. Anderson High School. As a child, Janie met and regularly played with a neighbor's child. On July 20, 1958 she and this same childhood friend, Gaylord Bunton were joined in marriage. To this union 3 daughters were born. Roslyn Bunton, Gina M. Bunton-Williams and Karen L. Bunton.

 

Janie made a commitment to Christ at the Main East Austin Baptist Church at an early age. Upon relocating to San Francisco, she became a faithful member of Neighborhood Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Pete Williams. She subsequently served under Neighborhood Baptist Church's current Pastor Lane Hawkins. As an active member, she previously served in the choir, the Mission Department, the Mother's Board and as past President of the Benevolence Committee. 

 

Jamie embarked upon a long-standing career in the telecommunications industry. She began as a directory assistance operator at Pacific Bell and concluded her career at AT&T in the real Estate and Acquisitions Department. Upon retirement, she embarked on yet another career in the call centers management at the Blood Bank of the Pacific, formally known as Irwin Memorial Blood Bank.

 

Janie transitioned to her heavenly home in paradise March 21, 2019 and was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Roslyn and siblings.

 

She leaves to cherish her life, her beloved husband and best friend Gaylord; her daughters Karen and Gina, her son in law Michael Williams; grandchildren Michael, Daionna, Micha, Sevyn (Ohio grandchild, Jason and his children); sister in law Elijah Mae Dotson, Barbara Price and the Price family, the Washington family, goddaughter Tristyn Ross, many adopted sons and daughters, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her beloved Neighborhood Baptist Church Family.

 

Services were held Friday, March 29, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Neighborhood Baptist Church.
