Millicent Atchan Obituary

Millicent Germaine Thomas Atchan was born to the late Ruby Louise Bolden and Tommy Thomas on May 7, 1954 in San Francisco, California. Millicent was raised by her Mother and

loving step-father, the late Eddie Donahue Morrell Jr.

Millicent was raised in the San Francisco Western Addition. She attended John Muir Elementary School, Everett Middle School and Polytechnic High School.

Family and friends affectionately referred to her as ‘Millie’.

Millicent Germaine Thomas and her First Love John Anthony Atchan were united in Holy Matrimony on September 30, 1971, to them one child was born; Janet Marie Atchan Follings. Millie and John moved their young family to Wichita Falls, Texas when John received a basketball scholarship to Midwestern State University. While John chased his dream of basketball, Millicent supported him by working at a local bank. At the age of three, Janet became the University’s mascot! As the ‘Littlest Cheerleader’, her proud Mother watched as she cheered for her Daddy.

Millie discovered her niche` in Banking and Finance. Upon her return home, she worked at The Mission Rebels, a non-profit organization, located in San Francisco Mission District. This led to her establishing a career at First Interstate Bank where she worked her way up from a Teller to Branch Manager.

Millie lived an illustrious life helping others. She could frequently be seen on her stomping grounds at Haight and Fillmore Streets! She loved to cook. Her delicious sweet potato pies and peach cobblers were sold at her son-in-law’s restaurant, Lilly’s New Orleans Café.

On April 3, 2019, while surrounded by her beloved family, Millicent peacefully transitioned from this world.

Millicent’s lineage continues through her daughter Janet Follings, son-in-law Surako Follings Sr., and grandchildren; Surako Follings Jr. & Maya Follings.
