Dearly beloved son of Charles and Nora, baptized at St. James and raised on Sanchez Street he attended Edison Grammer School, James Lick Junior High and Mission High School. After three years he left High School to join the Army and was a member of the 289th Regiment, 75th Infantry Division where he campaigned in the Ardennes during the Battle of the Bulge, the Rhineland and Central Europe. He earned the Combat Infantryman Badge and was awarded the Rhin Et Danube Medal from the French Government for participating with the First French Army in the Colmar Pocket. After the war he finished High School at Drew and began pursuing a life as a priest. He attended St. Mary’s Manor, Penndel, PA; Novitiate, Staten Island NY; Marist Colleges in Washington DC and Framingham, MA, ultimately being ordained February 6, 1955 by Bishop Michael J. Keyes, S.M.
Fr. Springer was posted to St. Paul’s Church, Nampa, ID as Assistant 1955-58; Marist Mission, Bouganville, North Solomons 1958-78; Washington DC as Missions promoter 1968-73; Star of the Sea, Honolulu HI 1978-79 Assistant; St. Matthew’s, Phoenix, AZ assistant 1979-82; Assistant Marist Mission Promoter, San Francisco, CA 1980-82; St. Matthew’s Church, Phoenix, AZ 1982-89 Pastor; St. Paul’s, Nampa ID 1989 Assistant, 1990-92 Pastor; St. Catherine’s, Kauai, HI Assistant 1992-95; Marist Center, San Francisco, CA, Mission Promoter 1996 to present.
