May 23, 1937 ~ November 11, 2017 (age 80) 80 Years Old

Mary Ann T. Collins

Dr. Mary Ann Collins, of the Pacific Heights section of San Francisco, entered eternal life on Saturday, November 11, 2017. Dr. Collins was well know in the area as a consequence of her many years of service as a Kindergarten teacher at St. Philip's School. She was also a friendly and familiar fixture in the neighborhood she loved so well.

Dr. Collins was born in her beloved Brooklyn, to her late parents Eugene J. and Agnes T. (née O'Reilly) Collins. She graduated from St. Brendan High School in Brooklyn and received the first of her several degrees, a Baccalaureate with a major in Psychology, from Notre Dame College in Staten Island, New York, in 1959.

Dr. Collins was employed by the Sayreville, NJ, School District as a teacher of kindergarten and school principal. She was very active in the local chapter of the New Jersey Education Association, serving for years as the President of the Sayreville Education Association. During these years she also pursued graduate studies in education at Rutgers State University, culminating with the awarded of a Doctorate in Education (Ed.D.) in 1970.

Not content with her new-found freedom from academic effort, Dr. Collins entered Law School at Rutgers, Newark, and there earned her second Doctorate, in Law (J.D.).

Mary Ann retired from New Jersey in the mid 1980s and moved to san Francisco, first living in Nob Hill before establishing her home in the Heights and commencing her second career at St. Philip School.

Dr. Collins is predeceased by her beloved sister Patricia Collins Hannis and her dear fiancé Al Lanzer. She is survived by her heartbroken brother John and his wife Patricia, and three cherished nephews: John Patrick Collins, Michael Collins, and William Hannis; a grand-nephew Cole Collins, and a grand-niece Mackenzie Hannis, all of the New Jersey, as well as relatives, friends and colleagues too numerous to name.

Friends are invited to attend the Funeral on Friday, November 17 at 3 p.m. at Duggan's Funeral Service 3434 - 17th Street. A brief service will take place in New Jersey at the Rezem Funeral Home, 457 Cranbury Road, Est Brunswick, on Tuesday, November 21 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow immediately at Holy Cross Burial Park, 840 Cranbury Road, Jamesburg, New Jersey.
