Fredy Buitrago

Fred Buitrago passed away on Monday, August 14th, at the full age of 80 years old. 

Fred was born on May 3rd, 1937 in Jinotepe, Nicaragua. Son of Benjamin Buitrago and Maria Del Pilar, Fred moved to San Francisco at the age of 18 where he was surrounded by his large, loving family. He was the beloved partner of Pearl Rivera for 36 years. Father of Cindy (Reid), Roy, and Martin, as well as a grandfather of 5, and a great grandfather of 6. 
Fred worked at Safeway for over 25 years, however his true passion was in antiques. He used his keen eye and persistence to spot fine pieces to add to his collection. He especially enjoyed the history behind those pieces and appreciated the craftsmanship that went into them.
Fred’s warmth, charm, and humor made him a friend to all those who shared time with him. Nowhere was this brought out more than when he was with his brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews who so caringly tended to him towards the end of his life.
A vigil will be held for Fred on Sunday, August 20th from 6-8pm at Duggan’s Funeral Service. Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral mass on Monday, August 21th at 10am at Saint James Church at 1086 Guerrero Street*, San Francisco. Mass will be immediately followed by a burial service at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, located at 1500 Mission Road in Colma.
*Parking available free of charge at the School located behind the church on Fair Oaks Street.
