John McGuire’s Obituary
John “Jack” Francis McGuire, 78, of San Francisco passed away peacefully on February 5th, 2024,
surrounded by his family. Jack grew up in San Francisco, a city he proudly loved and never left. He
worked at City College of San Francisco for 38 years as a coach and teacher where he positively
influenced and changed the lives of countless young men and women. Jack will be dearly missed and
always remembered.
Jack was predeceased by his mother, Irene McGuire, his father, Joseph McGuire, his sister, Joan
Thornton, and his brother, Frank Dillon. He is survived by his wife, Colleen, daughters Shawn McGuire
and Meghan McCarthy, son in law, Shane McCarthy, granddaughter, Róisín McCarthy, and sister in law,
Dorthy Dillon. A viewing will be held on Thursday, February 15th from 3pm-7pm at St. Paul’s Catholic
Church (221 Valley Street) and a funeral will be held on Friday, February 16th at 10:30am at St. Paul’s
Catholic Church (221 Valley Street). Following the funeral, we request everyone to join in the celebration
of Jack’s beautiful life at the United Irish Cultural Center (2700 45th Ave) at 1:30pm. In lieu of flowers,
please donate to The Foundation of CCSF- Football Team Fund (foundationccsf.org) in Jack’s honor.
