John Shanley passed away peacefully at home on August 4th, 2017 at the age of 95. Beloved husband of Mary for 85 years. Father of Mary, Michael, John (Dawn) and Theresa; grandfather of Sean, Mary T and Kate; brother of Matthew (Betty), Ann (John) Cook and sister-in-law Bridget Shanley; also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins in US, Ireland, England and Australia.
John was proceeded in death by his parents, Michael and Elizabeth, brothers Thomas (Mary - living), Michael (Patricia), Maureen (William) Roddis, Tony (Mary - living), Teasie, and Bernard.
John was born in county Leitrim, Ireland, January of 1922. He learned his carpenter trade in 1938. He left Ireland and traveled to England then Canada and arrived in the United States in 1950 in Chicago, arriving in San Francisco where he finally made his home. He was a proud member of Local 22 and also worked for the San Francisco Water Department. He was always particular of the job he had done, a true perfectionist. He was a hardworking, peaceful, soft-spoken man. Donations to St. Anthony or the charity of your choice. No flowers.
Friends may call Tuesday after 6:30 pm at St. Cecilia's Church where the Vigil will be held at 7:30 and are invited to attend the Funeral Mass, Wednesday at 11:00 am. Committal, Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
